PRESENTATION OF ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN OF THE 21ST CENTURY CAMPUS

On October 21, 2022, the architectural design of the 21st century campus was presented at Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice. The campus is to be created by reconstruction of existing university objects and completion of new buildings in the area bordered by Ondavská, Považská and Medická Streets. The design was presented to the management of UPJŠ, faculty deans and the director of the Institute of Physical Education and Sports by Atrium architectural studio.

The goal of Cassovia New Industry Cluster is to reverse the unfavorable social and economic development of the East Slovak region by creating new industry based on research in biomedicine, new materials, quantum and information technologies, and green energy. The new UPJŠ campus should combine the potential of academic environment with the resources and experience of the private sector. The headquarters of the CNIC project, which has no parallel in Slovakia and will permanently change both the face and character of Košice, was presented by Atrium architectural studio.

“The cutting-edge reconstructions and extensions of the UPJŠ student dormitories on Medická Street, rebuilding the existing gymnasium of the Institute of Physical Education and Sports into a multifunctional sports hall, or building a modern CNIC headquarters will open the university space to the 21st century. The design counts on energy self-sufficiency and sustainability by using the most modern materials and construction procedures. This will create a place in the inner city where students and researchers will have the opportunity to work as well as relax. They will have at their disposal sports fields, libraries, relax rooms and the overall infrastructure necessary for full-fledged study and research,” said the Chairman of the CNIC Board, prof. RNDr. Pavol Miškovský, DrSc.
